Mutton Chops' Dog Friend of the Month: ENZO!!!

What is your full name?
Enzo Akers

Age? Just turned 2!

What is your favorite place to take a walk? I love Forest Park- lots of people and things to see and I get to drink out of water fountains!  Water fountains are more sophisticated than drinking out of a bowl.
What is the tastiest treat? I love any treat that is placed into my Kong bone (known as my "cheese bone") for me to work out myself. I like a challenge. In particular I love string cheese, cooked sweet potato or baby carrots in my cheese bone. I'm never pushy about it though. I only bring my cheese bone to my humans when asked, and then I run off to another room to enjoy my treat all by myself. I'm getting giddy just thinking about it!
What is the one item you couldn't live without? My antlers. Oh, and massages! My mommy sits on the floor and I immediately sit with my back to her. Then I scoot myself with my front paws, rocking my butt back and forth on the floor until I know I'm as close to her as physically possible. That's when the fun begins! Once my neck, back and hips are done I lay on my back so she can end with a good belly rub. It's the best.
Car rides or belly rubs? Both!

Who is a famous dog you most idolize? Eddie Crane from Frasier, he is SO smart!

What is the most embarrassing thing your people have made you do? They ask me to jump into the bathtub for my baths... can you imagine? Okay, the truth is I know I should be embarrassed, but in reality I love jumping in the tub and getting baths, it means I get even more massages!

What is your most mischievous moment? I pretend like I'm following my humans to another room, but then I run over and open the cabinet where the trash can is stored. Other times I sneak a bite of sweet potato off the counter- but don't you think it's their fault for leaving my favorite food within my eye level and reach?

If you see me out and about please pardon my excitement when running over to you, I'm just hoping you'll pet me as soon as possible! Weren't humans put on this Earth to rub my head? At least MuttonChops knows to love on me all the time, I love Jeff, Julie and Heather!

Mutton Chops' Dog Friends of the Month: FEZ AND FIONA!!!

What is your full name?
Fez:  Fezzik.
Fiona:  Princess Fiona Diamond, Duchess of CheesyPoofs.
Fez:  Wait, I want to be royalty too.  I am Fezzik, Prince of Bacon.  And Sausage.

Age?
Fez:  4 & ½ of human years.
Fiona: 2 & ½ of none of your business.

Where is your favorite place to take a walk?
Fez:  Outside.
Fiona: Yeah, outside is nice.  Except when it’s cold.  I don’t like coats.
Fez: Or when it’s really hot.  Or when it’s raining.
Fiona: Yeah.

What is the tastiest treat?
Fez:  Floorpie.  Especially if it’s steak floorpie.
Fiona:  Right.  But you never know if it’s steak floorpie unless you eat it.
Fez:  Zactly.  So you have to eat it.
Fiona:  Yeah, you can always barf it up later if it turns out that it wasn’t food.

What is the one item you couldn't live without?
Fez:  Steak floorpie.
Fiona:  Yeah, steak floorpie.  I thought we answered this question.
Fez:  Can people be items?
Fiona:  We love Julie!
Fez:  And Jeff!
Fiona:  And our Mommies!
Fez:  Especially when they feed us.

Car rides or belly rubs?
Fez:  Car rides are scary.  Belly rubs are kinda scary, too.  I like head rubs though.
Fiona:  You’re nuts.  Belly rubs are nice.  Car rides would be nice too, if you weren’t such a ninny.

What do you really think of the cat you live with?
Fez:  We live with a cat?
Fiona:  She’s not a cat.  She’s a squirrel in disguise.

Who is a famous dog you most idolize?
Fez:  I really like that guy in Underworld.
Fiona:  That guy’s a werewolf, not a dog.
Fez:  No, he’s a vampire-werewolf hybrid.  Psych!

What is the most embarrassing thing your people have made you do?
Fiona:  When they dressed me up as “rally squirrel.”  And wearing those stupid outfits at Christmas – and then they photographed us!
Fez:  I have no recollection of any embarrassing moments.  I block them out.

What is your most mischievous moment?
Fez:  There was that time that I ate all the Christmas cookies.
Fiona:  First of all, you did not eat all the Christmas cookies.  I tricked you into getting the cookies down for me, and I ate a bunch of them.  And then, you got powdered sugar all over your face and I hid under Grandpa Fred’s legs, so the humans all blamed you.  Heh.

Mutton Chops' Dog Friend of the Month: CHUBBY!!

What is your full name?  Chubby Checker Barton

How old are you?  I'm 3 years old, going on 4 in January!  I'm so excited for my birthday!

Where is your favorite place to walk?  I love to take walks around the corner from my building to the old tennis courts.  I do lots of visiting there with my friends Mathilde and Monroe.  It's where I get all my info on the neighborhood goings-on, but I assure you I'm not a gossip.

What is the tastiest treat?  That's easy: DENTISTIX!

What is the one item you can never live without?  Can I please pick two?  It's a toss up between my tennis ball (I LOVE fetch, and I'm such a good catcher!) and my stuffed Dalmation.  He's my best toy friend.

Car rides or belly rubs?  I definitely prefer car rides, but I can go for the occasional belly rub if the mood strikes.

Who is the famous dog you most idolize?  Oh wow, I love Hooch!  You know, from Turner & Hooch?
My person, Kevin, claims I attempt to drool just as much as Hooch, too.  That's true, I admit.

What is the most embarrassing thing your person has made you do?  Ugh, I had to pose for an obedience school graduation picture!  Super embarrassing!!!

What is your most mischievous moment?  Surely, I don't know what you mean.  One time I spread trash can contents throughout the house in two hours.  I was pretty proud of myself.  But come to think of it, maybe that's why I have to stay in the bedroom now when Kevin is gone...

Mutton Chops' Dog Friend of the Month: LUCY!!!!

What is your full name? "Lucy," aka "Lucy the Goose," "Lucy Goosey," "Lulu bean," "Lucy the Wonderdog," etc.  My mom is big on nicknames.

Age?  About 4 but mom says I refuse "to give up petulant and childish behavior," whatever that means.

What is your favorite place to walk?  I like keeping tabs on my neighborhood:  the cats and dogs, the squirrels, the ducks in Lafayette Park.  I walk my beat multiple times a day to keep up on all the action, and to make sure I don't miss any good sniffing spots.  I find new sniffing spots pretty much every time I go out, and they're all pretty interesting.  Lots of times I find leftover food near one of the restaurants nearby, and that makes for a great walk!

What is the tastiest treat?  I really really really like any dog cookies with frosting.  I like to lick off all the frosting before I eat the cookie.  I'm also a big fan of cat food, and my mom gave me the job of cleaning all the cat food cans for recycling.  I'm a rockstar can cleaner!

What is the one item you couldn't live without?  I always need stuff to chew.  My favorite is an empty plush skunk that holds an empty water bottle for chewing.  I LOVE empty water bottles!  I also love de-stuffing plush toys.  I can cover an entire area rug with the stuffing from a single toy!  Recently, Mom bought me a 2 foot stuffed Homer Simpson doll at Goodwill.  I should have the entire thing emptied out in another few days.

Car rides or belly rubs?  Car rides.  I always love going for car rides, and mom takes me on road trips and buys me fast food hamburgers as a special treat.  Car rides are best when the windows are down.  I like tummy rubs, but I was pretty shy when Mom adopted me, so I'm just now getting more comfortable with tummy rubs.

Who is a famous dog you most idolize?  Truthfully, I don't pay much attention to other dogs, and I'm pretty sure I'd be the best anyway.  Mom idolizes that Just Jesse on youtube and wants me to learn more tricks.  I'm cool with that, because I get treats when I do my tricks.

What is the most embarrassing thing your person has made you do?  It's a toss-up.  When it's super freezing I have to wear a sweater outside, and I can't wait to take it back off!  At least Mom promised not to buy me a Nebraska Cornhuskers jersey for football season.  But she makes me take baths, and it's embarrassing to go out smelling like lavender instead of like me.  I'm pretty good at finding stuff to roll in, though, to undo that girly smell after baths.

What do you really think about the two cats you live with?  The black one, Nando, is actually OK.  We look out the window together and he lets me chase him and give him kisses.  The Siamese guy wants me to leave him alone, but that's hard.  I love their new food, though, and I take my job cleaning those cans pretty seriously.

What is your most mischievous moment?  I don't think I've ever done anything mischievous, but Mom was pretty mad the day I dug her Tory Burch shoes out of her gym bag.  Something about them being new and expensive.  She was also mad the day I chewed her flip flops, another day I chewed a pen on the carpet, the day I chewed her leather gloves, the day I chewed a comforter at grandma's house, the day I chewed her favorite work shoes, the day I chewed the same shoes after she had them repaired....I just feel better chewing.  If it makes me happy, I'm pretty sure it's not mischievous!

Mutton Chops' Dog Friend of the Month: LEVI!!

Full Name: Levi "Big Dog" Moore
Age: about four; I don't remember much of my life before my current parents adopted me, but I've been with them almost two years
Favorite place to walk: It's not about where I walk, it's about what I smell.  I'm obsessed with sniffing grass, leaves, bushes, trees, even pavement, so as long as the environment smells good to me, I'm happy to walk there.
Tastiest treat: While I get excited about the stuffed Kong I get every morning, I go beserk when my parents give me a Kong filled with just peanut butter.  My eyes get all crazy and I race into my crate once my parents show me what I'm getting.  I also love cheese, any kind will do.
The item you can't live without: Aside from my Kong?  Probably my dog bed.  Even though I love to lounge on the couch, my parents sometimes irritate me with their constant petting and kisses, so I go to my bed to get away from them.  I hate laying on the hard floor too-why should a prince like me have to suffer?
Car rides or belly rubs? Belly rubs!  I often sleep on my back to hint to my parents that it's time to rub my belly.  My favorite part of the week is the extended period of belly rubs I get on Sunday morning when we all wake up.
Famous dog you most idolize: This one's easy: definitely Sweet Jasmine, the beautiful pit bull featured on Sports Illustrated's cover in 2008.  Not only is she really good looking, but she is also extremely brave to pose for a bunch of strangers after everything she went through with that nasty football player.  I can't repeat what mom and dad call him, but I think you know the one.  Anyway, I am often misjudged because of the way I look, so I eat up any positive publicity dogs like me get.
What is the most embarrassing thing your people have made you do?  Well, my mom is way more guilty than my dad, but she sometimes makes me wear stupid holiday collars for Halloween or Christmas or whatever.  And one time she made me wear a bandana as a bonnet!  Can you believe that?  Luckily she just wanted a funny picture and didn't make me go out in public like that.  Hopefully she'll never show anyone that picture.
What do you really think about the two birds you live with?  Well, the little gray one scares me because she flies around so much.  Sometimes she lands on me and I'm a very good boy and leave her alone even though I'm afraid she'll attack me.  The little green one isn't so bad.  He gives me kisses and cleans my fur sometimes.  They also keep me company during the day, which is nice because I miss my mom and dad.  But I admit they can sometimes be a little noisy for my taste!

Most mischievous moment?  Me?  Mischievous?  Hardly.  I'm such a good boy my mom and dad almost never have to tell me "no."  But there was this one time...When we were all living with my Nanny my mom and dad decided to leave me out of my crate.  I got bored and sniffed something tasty.  I sniffed all around until I found the source of the smell: a box of homemade cookies my aunt Patti had sent just for me all the way from Maine.  So I ate them all in one sitting.  They were for me, right, so I don't see the problem.  Luckily mom and dad just laughed when they got home and said something about hoping I don't get sick.

*Note: Since this interview was first conducted in the summer of 2010, Levi's crate has been upgraded to his very own bedroom.  His family has grown from two people, one dog and two birds to the addition of another dog (Neptune) and a human baby on the way!
