Mutton Mug of the Day: Sophie, Roxie, and Louie!

One of our favorite things about cold weather is seeing dogs in sweaters and coats.  Winter looks good on Sophie, Roxie, and Louie, no?  We look forward to a season of watching them sport their wear.

Rescue Organization of the Season: Tenth Life Cat Rescue!

It's our goal here at Mutton Chops to donate to a local rescue organization every year in honor of our clients.  Last year we helped out Loosen the Leash, a really amazing group that pairs shelter dogs with at-risk youth who train the pups for three months (www.loosentheleash.com). Now it’s time to show the kitties some love. Tenth Life Cat Rescue is a wonderful organization that gives our feline friends loving places to live and it is our rescue group of the season (www.tenthlifecats.org)!  But this year we’re spicing things up.  Not only will we make a donation in honor of our clients, but we’re also encouraging our clients, friends, and family to donate, too.  The donation doesn't necessarily need to be monetary.

Let's see how much we can raise for Tenth Life in the next four weeks by December 19th.  As generous as our clients have been to us, I know we can do a great job together!  The Mutton Chops crew is happy to pick up donations, or you can drop them off at Julie's apartment: 4006 A Connecticut St. 63116  Please email us at muttonchopsdogwalking@gmail.com with a heads up whether you need us to pick up or if you want to drop off.

Upon asking Tenth Life's founder, Elizabeth Frick, what we can do to most benefit the cats, she replied with a thorough list of exactly what they can use and what your money goes toward.  Here's what she had to say:

"Hi Julie,

Thank you so much - I'm honored to be Mutton Chops' organization of the holiday season! How wonderfully generous and thoughtful of you!!!

Mostly canned food and litter are always at the top of our list. Monetary donations are, of course, always welcome, as our greatest expense is veterinary bills. Here's the equivalences for monetary donations:
$5 microchips one cat
$10 provides one round of vaccines for a kitten, or an annual vaccine for an adult
$25 neuters one male cat
$55 spays one female cat
$100 provides most typical medical care for a male kitten, preparing him for adoption
$150 provides most typical medical care for a female kitten, preparing her for adoption
And if someone is feeling very generous, Derby's eye removal will cost about $500 and will be performed in a couple months, when she is old enough to undergo the procedure :)

Otherwise, kitties also enjoy toys, treats, comfy beds, and catnip! We really don't need towels or blankets right now, but litter boxes or scratching devices are always welcome.

Thank you again, so much!!!

Mutton Chops' Dog Friend of the Month: LUCY!!!!

What is your full name? "Lucy," aka "Lucy the Goose," "Lucy Goosey," "Lulu bean," "Lucy the Wonderdog," etc.  My mom is big on nicknames.

Age?  About 4 but mom says I refuse "to give up petulant and childish behavior," whatever that means.

What is your favorite place to walk?  I like keeping tabs on my neighborhood:  the cats and dogs, the squirrels, the ducks in Lafayette Park.  I walk my beat multiple times a day to keep up on all the action, and to make sure I don't miss any good sniffing spots.  I find new sniffing spots pretty much every time I go out, and they're all pretty interesting.  Lots of times I find leftover food near one of the restaurants nearby, and that makes for a great walk!

What is the tastiest treat?  I really really really like any dog cookies with frosting.  I like to lick off all the frosting before I eat the cookie.  I'm also a big fan of cat food, and my mom gave me the job of cleaning all the cat food cans for recycling.  I'm a rockstar can cleaner!

What is the one item you couldn't live without?  I always need stuff to chew.  My favorite is an empty plush skunk that holds an empty water bottle for chewing.  I LOVE empty water bottles!  I also love de-stuffing plush toys.  I can cover an entire area rug with the stuffing from a single toy!  Recently, Mom bought me a 2 foot stuffed Homer Simpson doll at Goodwill.  I should have the entire thing emptied out in another few days.

Car rides or belly rubs?  Car rides.  I always love going for car rides, and mom takes me on road trips and buys me fast food hamburgers as a special treat.  Car rides are best when the windows are down.  I like tummy rubs, but I was pretty shy when Mom adopted me, so I'm just now getting more comfortable with tummy rubs.

Who is a famous dog you most idolize?  Truthfully, I don't pay much attention to other dogs, and I'm pretty sure I'd be the best anyway.  Mom idolizes that Just Jesse on youtube and wants me to learn more tricks.  I'm cool with that, because I get treats when I do my tricks.

What is the most embarrassing thing your person has made you do?  It's a toss-up.  When it's super freezing I have to wear a sweater outside, and I can't wait to take it back off!  At least Mom promised not to buy me a Nebraska Cornhuskers jersey for football season.  But she makes me take baths, and it's embarrassing to go out smelling like lavender instead of like me.  I'm pretty good at finding stuff to roll in, though, to undo that girly smell after baths.

What do you really think about the two cats you live with?  The black one, Nando, is actually OK.  We look out the window together and he lets me chase him and give him kisses.  The Siamese guy wants me to leave him alone, but that's hard.  I love their new food, though, and I take my job cleaning those cans pretty seriously.

What is your most mischievous moment?  I don't think I've ever done anything mischievous, but Mom was pretty mad the day I dug her Tory Burch shoes out of her gym bag.  Something about them being new and expensive.  She was also mad the day I chewed her flip flops, another day I chewed a pen on the carpet, the day I chewed her leather gloves, the day I chewed a comforter at grandma's house, the day I chewed her favorite work shoes, the day I chewed the same shoes after she had them repaired....I just feel better chewing.  If it makes me happy, I'm pretty sure it's not mischievous!
